Cowboys Still Undefeated, Move to 3-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ - The Cowboys, led by Head Coach Joe Harge, improved their record to 3-0 after a weekend sweep over Montana State University-Northern and Bethesda College in the Arizona Christian Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona, November 15-16.

Phoenix, AZ - The Cowboys first opponent on Friday, November 15 was Montana State-Northern, ranked #24 in the latest NAIA national polls and were boasting a 6-0 record going into Friday's contest versus the Cowboys. In a defensive battle, the Cowboys came out on top 64-49 to hand MSU-Northern their first loss of the season.

The Cowboys used a balanced attack in the scoring column. Senior guard Lavell McDade led the way with 13 points on 5-11 shooting from the field and 3 of 7 from beyond the 3 point arc.
He also contributed 4 rebounds and 3 steals in 32 minutes of action. The big man in the middle, Jeverik Nelson, was the only other double figure scorer, netting 11 points, shooting 5 for 7 from the free throw line.

After going into the locker room up 33-28, the Cowboys locked down even more on the defensive end of the floor. The Cowboys defense held MSU-Northern to 10 of 30(33%) shooting from the field, 1 for 10(10%) from the 3 point line, and only sent them to the free throw line twice, which they came up empty 0 for 2(0%).

Phoenix, AZ - The Cowboys second opponent on Saturday, November 16 was Bethesda University of California. At the intermission the Cowboys found themselves down 34-31 for the 1st time this season. The Cowboys came back out of halftime to outscore the Flames 40-31 in the second period for a final score of 71-65. Bethesda University is located in Anaheim, California and is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). The basketball program is in just its second season of existence.

Senior guard Mannie Cass shot the lights out going 10 for 12 from the field, 4 for 6 from the 3 point line, and 3-4 from the free throw line for a total of 27 points in the contest.

Senior Stuart Sullivan recorded 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 rebounds. Senior guard Lavell McDade rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.

The Cowboys got outscored 46-30 in the paint, but got the edge 24-6 from the 3 point line. 

The Cowboys will travel on their day off to Riverside, California to prepare for a game against California Baptist University on Monday, November 18 to finish their road trip. This will be the battle of the unbeaten, as CBU is currently 2-0 on the young 2013-14 season.
