Cowboys Struggle on the Road in Colorado

#2 Mannie Cass
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The NMHU Men's Basketball team continued to struggle on the road, as they dropped both games of their Colorado road trip.  They lost to the Colorado School of Mines on Feb. 22, in Golden, Colo., by the final score of 90-74.  Then they followed that up with an 89-78 loss to Colorado Christian University, in Lakewood, Colo. on Feb. 23.  With the losses the Cowboys fall to 10-11 in the RMAC and 12-13 in overall play.  The Cowboys still have a chance of making the RMAC postseason tournament if they can get a win in their last game of the regular season against Western New Mexico University next weekend.

CSM 90 – NMHU 74

The first half was dominated by offensive strategy. Shot for shot, the two teams battled early. CSM was able to create a seven point lead by the 14:26 mark of the first half.

The Cowboys fought back and were able to gain their first lead of the game with 3:25 left in the first half (31-30). Each team would exchange the lead several times before the first half was over but when it was finished the Orediggers were up 41-37.

CSM came out in the second half with consistent offense, but the Cowboys would attempt to overcome their deficit. Mannie Cass would cut the lead to five points with a 3-pointer at the 14:13 mark of the second half but it's the closest the Cowboys would get to the Orediggers.

CSM was able to control the lead and the ball game. Stretching their lead to 21 points with 6:59 to play in the game, the Orediggers left the game as winners. The final score was 90-74 in favor of CSM.

CCU 89 – NMHU 78

The Cougars went ahead early in the first half and they never let the Cowboys back in the game.  CCU would lead by as much as 17 points in the first half and they kept the pressure on NMHU.  When the buzzer sounded to end the first half, CCU was up 46-35.

The Cowboys tried to cut into the Cougars' lead in the second half.  They managed to get to within five points (56-51) of CCU, but each time the Cougars were able to regain their composure and hold the Cowboys at bay.

When the final buzzer sounded to end the game, CCU was victorious by the final score of 89-78.

Stuart Sullivan had a good game for the Cowboys, scoring 26 points in 35 minutes of playing time.  Sullivan was 4-10 from three-point range and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Cowboys will continue conference action on Mar. 3, when they travel to Silver City, N.M. to take on the rival Mustangs of Western New Mexico University. The Cougars are sitting in tenth place in the RMAC, with a 13-4 conference record and 13-15 in overall play.  The game is scheduled for an 7:30 p.m. tip-off time, following the Cowgirls' game.  If you can't make it down to Silver City to watch your Cowboys in action, you can click HERE to follow the game via Live Stats.  If you would like to view the game live online, you can click HERE to follow the action on the America One Network.
