Canyon, Texas – The Cowgirl Soccer team earned a 0-0 draw on the road against the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs.  The Cowgirls went down to Canyon, Texas and battled one of the top Women's Soccer teams in the state to a draw in double overtime.  The Cowgirls' defense continues their phenomenal play, holding opponents scoreless in through the last five halves and four overtime periods that they have endured.  The Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Justin Wagar, are now 1-0-2 in the 2013 season.

NMHU 0 – WTAMU 0

The Cowgirls' defense was put to the sword in the first period, facing five shots from a relentless Lady Buffs' attack.  The NMHU offense endured a slow start, taking only one shot and wasting two corner kicks.

In the second half, the Cowgirls were able to take the offensive, placing seven shots on target.  The Lady Buffs matched the Cowgirls' shots but the defense was able to stand strong and keep the game scoreless.  With the game tied up at 0-0, the teams headed into overtime.

In the first overtime period, the Cowgirls were able to outshoot West Texas A&M, 4-1, but they still couldn't find the back of the net.  The teams would need a second overtime to settle the contest, but that wouldn't be enough.  The Lady Buffs' offense was able to generate further attacks but when the final whistle was blown the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Cowgirls' defense played another game of top-notch soccer, holding the Lady Buffs scoreless despite facing 15 shots.  GK Nikita Rivera managed four saves in her 100 minutes on the pitch and has pitched a shutout through 255 minutes of soccer so far this season.  The Cowgirls now have two shutouts in consecutive contests.

The Cowgirls' offense managed to generate 13 scoring opportunities but they weren't able to find the back of the net.   Crystal Schuder and Nicole Millar led the Cowgirls with two shots on goal apiece.
"We had a lot of opportunities in front of goal tonight," commented Coach Wagar.  "We missed two open nets.  Right now we just aren't finishing and when we can figure that out we will start winning matches."

The Cowgirls will continue non-conference road action again next Sunday, Sept. 15, in Golden, Colo.  The Cowgirls will play St. Mary's University (Texas) on a neutral site at the Colorado School of Mines.  The Lady Rattlers are 2-0-1 this year.  The match on Sunday is set for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off.  Stay tuned to the NMHU Athletics web site for more information on Live Stats or internet streaming video.
