Cowboys are ready to Tangle against the Grizzlies of Adams State

LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The New Mexico Highlands University Cowboy wrestling team (3-1, 1-1 conference) will start their second week of duals matches in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and will be on the road. Their first dual is on Thurs (Jan. 23) against the Grizzlies of Adams State University (1-2, in the RMAC and 3-3 overall) at 7 p.m. in Alamosa, Colo. The second dual is against the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University (0-0, in the RMAC and 5-3 overall) on Friday, (Jan 24) at 7 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo.

"We have a tough road ahead this weekend, with two back-to-back Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference duals, and we are up for the challenge," head coach Doug Moses noted.

A more in depth look into Cowboys Wrestling

Sophomore Erick Rangel (18-4) and redshirt sophomore Juan Alvarado (17-4) continue to shine and lead the Cowboy charge.

Rangel, Humphrey, Alvarado, Gomzin, and Rockhill all split on the last weekend for the Cowboys.

Rangel against Chadron State won a very tough match against Taylor Summers and he took the decision 9-8. Rangel is 2-1 in the 2014 dual season and his record in conference is 1-1.

Redshirt sophomore Tre Humphrey thus far in the dual season has earned three falls out of 4 matches. This past weekend, he earned a fall against Joshua Redman from Colo. School of Mines in the 4:33. His record in conference is 1-1.

Alvarado, earned his 17th victory of season against Ashton Krajnovich from Colo. School of Mines in a 5-1 decision. His record in conference is 1-1.

Junior Easton Hargrave won his first two duals in the RMAC this past weekend. He earned decision against Caleb Copeland from Chadron State, 10-7. Against Colo. School of Mines, Hargrave quickly earned a pin in the first round in the 1:36. His record in conference is 2-0.

Senior Igor Gomzin also earned a spilt decision this past weekend. Gomzin earned a victory by forfeit against Colo. School of Mines. His record in conference is 1-1.

Junior, Justin Rockhill (a national qualifier in 2012-2013) defeated Devan Fors (from Chadron State) in a tough dual by the final score of 6-5. His record in conference is 1-1.

 A more depth look into Adams State University, the Cowboys Next Opponent

The Grizzlies are led by two nationally rank wrestlers, Ryan Fillingame at 141 who is rank first in the NCAA Division II Individual Rankings (as of Jan.15). Justin Samora at 165 is rank third in the NCAA Division II Individual Rankings (as of Jan.15).

The Grizzlies earned their first conference dual match against the Thunderwolves of Colorado State University-Pueblo on Jan.16, by a final score of 26-19.

The Grizzlies competed at the University of Nebraska- Kearney Duals this past weekend. They earned one victory out of four duals. They defeated Minot State by the final score of 27-26. They lost their dual match against San Francisco State by the final score, 26-16. California Baptist beat Adams State by the final score, 36-7. Adams State also lost to Wisconsin Whitewater by the final score, 27-13.
