LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Tied 1-1 at the break, the Cowgirls tallied a pair of second half goals within 15 seconds in the 66th minute as New Mexico Highlands (7-3-3, 4-2-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) picked up a critical three points with a 3-1 win against CSU-Pueblo (5-5-2, 3-4-2 RMAC) Friday night (Oct. 17).
With the score tied, Highlands was awarded a free kick 40-yards out. The Cowgirls threw deception at the Thunderwolves with freshman
Mallory Bostic eventually passing to junior
Jasmine Waugaman on the top right of the box. Waugaman netted her second goal of the season and the game-winning goal from that spot.
Just 15 seconds later, Highlands stole the ball near midfield with freshman
Hannah Dahlquist hitting sophomore
Anyssa Dagnino 35-yards out. Dagnino flicked the ball towards the goal and snuck in the left post for the insurance score, her seventh tally of the season.
Freshman
Malia Maack scored her first goal of the season for the Cowgirls in the 14th minute. Waugaman found Maack with a pass and from the left side, Maack arched the ball into the top right corner of the goal to put Highlands up early. Brittany Kliesen for CSU-Pueblo answered 20 minutes later with her second goal of the season to tie the game.
Freshman
Sarah Beecher took the win in goal for Highlands and grabbed five saves to improve to 7-3-3 on the season. Jenn Rucker fell to 5-5-2 for the visitors, grabbing six saves on nine shots faced.
Dagnino and Waugaman led Highlands with three shots on goal each. Waugaman added a pair on goal while Bostic had an assist and as shot on target in three attempts. Kliesen, who scored the lone goal for the Thunderwolves, tallied half (3-of-6) of CSU-Pueblo's shots on goal.
The Cowgirls continue their run towards an RMAC Tournament berth Sunday (Oct. 19) against Adams State. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
