OCT. 26 METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY of DENVER: LIVE VIDEO | LIVE STATSLAS VEGAS, N.M. – The New Mexico Highlands women's soccer team (8-3-3, 5-2-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) looks to make its way into the RMAC Tournament field this weekend when the Cowgirls travel to take on Colorado Mesa (0-11-4, 0-8-3 RMAC) Friday (Oct. 24) in Grand Juction, Colorado, at 4:30 p.m. New Mexico Highlands will then return home to take on eighth-ranked Metropolitan State University of Denver (11-1-2, 8-0-2) Sunday (Oct. 26) at 1 p.m.
To officially clinch a spot, Highlands will need to either: 1). Win both games 2). Win one game OR tie both games and Western State loses at Colorado School of Mines on Sunday.
The Cowgirls, currently sitting fourth in the RMAC, put themselves in contention to host an RMAC Tournament game by outscoring their oppnents 8-3 in their last six games and holding a 4-0-2 record during that span. That is after Highlands went 1-2-1 to begin conference play and only scoring two goals in that stretch – both of which came against Colorado Christian.
While the Cowgirls defense has given up a goal apiece in the last two games, the offense has exploded for five goals in home wins against CSU-Pueblo and Adams State. The ironic part: All five goals have been scored by a different person. Freshman
Malia Maack scored her first goal of the season against CSU-Pueblo when she took a free kick from 40 yards out on the left side of the field and hooked it into the top right corner of the goal.
