Tough night for volleyball on senior night

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.- Senior Day did not go as planned as the Cowgirls fell to Chadron State in straight sets (22-25, 22-25, 19-25). Senior Andrea Nunez led the team with 10 kills and was a dig shy of a double-double.
 
In the first set, the score would be close, as the two teams would be tied at 9. The Eagles would later go on a five-point run to go up 19-13 on the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls would not give up and make a push to cut the deficit. They would have a four-point run to be down 22-19. Kills by Marissa Hoffman and Nunez would get them three more points but it was little too late as they dropped the first set, 25-22.
 
Second set started differently as the Cowgirls scored the first five of six points of the set. Using multiple kills from Hoffman and teammate, Katie Trammel, the girls would build a 14-7 lead on the Eagles. The Eagles would counter with a 10-1 run to go up 17-15. The Cowgirls would try to counter but their efforts were unsuccessful as the Eagles never let go of the lead and cut the Cowgirls runs to a minimum. Despite the Eagles only having nine kills, the set would end the same as the first, 25-22 Eagles.
 
The third set was not one of the Cowgirls strongest as they only had six kills to Eagles 18 kills. Using six mishaps from the Eagles, the Cowgirls would build an 8-6 lead to start the set. Afterwards, the Cowgirls would lose their lead, as the Eagles would go on a 9-2 run. A kill by Caroline Hansen would stop the run. Being down 21-14, the Cowgirls would start their late push and score the next 4 of 5 points to cut the deficit to four. Again, their push would be late, as the Eagles would score their last points to win the set and match.
 
The Cowgirls head back on the road to face Colorado Christian University and Colorado School of Mines next weekend.
