Cowgirls battle new conference foe

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.- Volleyball drops another as they have a great first set and drop the next three.  The Cowgirls (4-10, 1-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) could not replicate their first set and lost in four to Westminster (25-14, 21-25, 17-25, 21-25).

LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowgirls started the same way they did against Colorado Mesa and dominated from the beginning. They had a kill by Andrea Nunez and an ace from Talise Babbitt to help get a 3-0 lead. The rhythm was on the Cowgirls side and they would dominate the Griffins to build a 12-4 lead. Several kills by multiple players and a couple errors by the Griffins would help the Cowgirls get the first set 25-14.  The girls would have a flawless set with no attacking errors.

Although the second set started great, the Cowgirls would lose their momentum and their clean play. They would start with a 5-1 lead with four of those points coming from the Griffins' errors. The Griffins would fight back and tie it up at 5-5. After two points for Highlands, the Griffins would score and from there, the teams would go back and forth. At 17-17, the girls would lose the lead and never get it back as they lost the second set, 25-21.

Set three would be the Cowgirls weakest set as they had 8 kills in the set. The girls would give the Griffins most of their points as the girls had 7, out their total 10 service errors of the match, in the third set. The Griffins took advantage and took a 2-1 set lead.

In the fourth set, Highlands would have a 16-12 point lead from several kills and multiple errors from the Griffins. The Cowgirls would lose the lead again late in the set and go down 20-18 after a 4-0 run from the Griffins. A kill by Matthews, Kristin Woody, and Nunez would cut the lead down to one a few different times but the Griffins would continue scoring and go on a 3-0 run to win the set and match.

Although the Cowgirls lost, their blocking improved as they had 8.5 blocks with Tianna Matthews having 5 block assists.

The Cowgirls go on the road again as they play Oklahoma Panhandle State University, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville at Goodwell, Oklahoma at 1&4 p.m. Live stats will be available.
