Cougars too much for Cowgirls

Box Score LAKEWOOD, COLO. –  The New Mexico Highlands Volleyball Team fell to Colorado Christian despite winning a tough first set 28-26. The Cowgirls had strong performances as they had three players with double-doubles, Caroline Hansen, Andrea Nunez, and Talise Babbit.
 
First set was a close set, as the biggest lead by the Cowgirls was four points.  The Cowgirls managed to build a two point lead to go up 9-7 on the Cougars. The Cougars would come back and tie the game at 12. From there, the Cougars would build a three-point lead to go up 17-14. After a timeout by the Cowgirls, the Cowgirls would score the next four points to get the lead again at 18-17. After a point by the Cougars, the Cowgirls would go on another three-point run. The Cougars would come back and tie the game at 24. After each team trading two points, the Cowgirls would score the final two points to win the set 28-26.
 
The second set started the same, as both teams would be tied at 12. The score would be close until the Cougars would build a three-point lead to be one point short of winning the set, 24-21. After a timeout, the Cowgirls would score three points, on two kills and an ace to tie the set at 24. Despite the hard work to keep the set alive, the Cougars would take the next two points to win the set.
 
Being tied at one set apiece, the third set was the Cougars as the Cougars had the lead throughout most of the set. The Cougars had multiple runs to win the set 25-16.
 
In the fourth set, the Cowgirls came out slow as they were down 1-3. Cowgirls would come back and tie the game at 4-4. The Cowgirls would then be down again at 5-9. Being down 12-15, the Cowgirls would make a four-point run to get their first lead of the set, 16-15. It would be short-lived, as the Cougars would get the lead back to go up 19-17. After kills by Nunez and Shayli Schultz, the girls would go up 20-19 on the Cougars. Tied at 21-21, the Cougars would go on a late-set push to win the set and match.
 
The Cowgirls return to action Saturday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. against #18 Colorado School of Mines.
