PUEBLO, Colo. – Senior
Easton Hargrave recorded the second period pin, but the New Mexico Highlands wrestling team (8-5, 1-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) lost to CSU-Pueblo (8-7, 3-3 RMAC) Tuesday night (Feb. 3) in Pueblo, Colorado.
Hargrave forced the action early for the Cowboys, getting the first period takedown and his opponent, Riley Argyle, was dinged for stalling. Hargrave was then taken down in the second period, but an escape and then his takedown of Argyle led to the fall in 4:37.
At 149, redshirt freshman
Reis Humphrey started out with a lone escape against Dillon Karajanis in the second, but both wrestlers got to work in the third. Starting down, Karajanis recorded the escape to tie the match. Humphrey tallied the only takedown of the match to take a 3-1 lead. Karajanis got the escape, but Humphrey held on for the slim 3-2 win.
Redshirt sophomore
Cody Marquez ended the match on a high note thanks to his ability to prevent an escape. Marquez was taken down in the first by Niko Bogojevic, but he was able to have his own escape. Bogojevic chose down in the second, but Marquez did not allow the point as he only trailed 2-1 heading into the third and had more than a minute riding time. In the final period of the night, Marquez escaped fast enough to tie the match at two and claim the victory thanks to the riding time point.
