Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Cowboys came out shy again as a late run by the Roadrunners helped them win 95-88. Despite the loss,
Jonathon Mines had 27 points and 8 rebounds. The Roadrunners brought their "A" game as they played clean ball and their leading scorer, Tony Dobbinson, had 40 points.
The game was close the whole 40 minutes, as the largest lead was 9 points by the Roadrunners.
Foul trouble forced
Marlon Johnson, the Cowboys' leading rebounder, to see limited minutes as he four fouls with just five minutes left in the first half. He would have 12 points and 4 rebounds before he got his fifth and last foul in the second half.
Tony Dobbinson would go on a shooting spree at the end of the first half to help the Roadrunners pull away but Mines would counter back to make several shots to go into the locker room down 42-43.
With 14:51 left in the game, the Cowboys would get their first lead since the beginning of the game after a made free throw by
Ron Lawton. The Cowboys would push and go up 66-60 with 11:40 on the clock.
As the game approached the end, both teams were relentless to give the other team the win.
With 4:00 in the game, the Roadrunners would go on a 7-0 run that help them take control of the game. Missed shots by the Cowboys and second chance points helped the Roadrunners have this run.
With two minutes left in the game, the Cowboys would be down 91-83. They would begin to drain shots but that run by the Roadrunners proved costly, as there was little time for the boys to come back.
The Highlands return to action tomorrow against University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
