Two Double-Doubles For Cowboys in Win Over Western St.

Box Score GUNNISON, COLO. - Double-doubles by Marlon Johnson and Kendrick Nichols helped get the Cowboys back on the right track. The Cowboys dominated as they beat Western State Colorado University 88-73 and shot over 56% from the field. After having an off night against CSU-Pueblo, the Cowboys came back with an impressive display of shooting.
 
The Cowboys started quick by having an 8-0 lead to start the game. The Mountaineers would come back and go on an 8-0 run of their own.  With 14:03 left in the first, the Cowboys would be up 16-14.
 
After a three pointer by Marlon Johnson, the Cowboys would go on 14-2 run. The Cowboys would carry the lead into the half after two free throws by James Healy to go up 37-27.
 
The Mountaineers would fight and cut the deficit to one after five minutes. With a three pointer by Will Duggan, the Mountaineers would gain their first lead since the beginning of the first half.
 
Both teams would then exchange the lead as neither team could gather a big run. Ron Lawton, who had a team high 24 points, would make two free throws to tie and give Cowboys the lead with 9:00 left.
 
The Cowboys would take advantage of their lead and go on a 23-8 run that lasted five minutes. With 2:00 left, the Cowboys would be up 80-64. The momentum was all on the Cowboys side as Ron Lawton would end the game with an emphatic dunk to put an end to the game.

The Cowboys will return to action next weekend at home against Chardon State on Friday and Regis on Saturday. The Cowgirls will start off each doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. The Cowboys are tied for first place in the RMAC with Fort Lewis.
