Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands Women's Soccer team fell to the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks in extra time by a score of 2-1 for their Senior Day game. The Cowgirls drop to 3-10-1 overall, and 3-7 RMAC.
First Period: The Mavericks tried to get on the board first as they took the first shot of the game, but Freshman goalkeeper Katherine Scott got the save. Senior Anyssa Dagnino fired back but missed wide right. The Mavericks came back to score the first goal of the game, 35 minutes in. Both defenses played tough to close out the period.
Second Period: The Cowgirls had a tough time getting any open shots. Senior Danielle Acuna missed a shot wide right, but 3 minutes later, Senior Samantha Mendez connected on a shot for her second goal of the season. Mendez took another shot before the end of regulation, but she could not find the back of the net.
Third Period: The third period ended quickly, as the Mavericks found a way to score a goal a minute and a half in. Scott finished the game with 6 saves. Dagnino and Mendez took two shots each for the game.
Final Score: Cowgirls-1 Mavericks-2
The Cowgirls will head to Colorado to take on the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers on October 28th at 3:00 p.m.
