Cowgirls Drop to the Grizzlies

Alamosa, CO- The New Mexico Highlands Women's Volleyball team dropped the match to the Adams State University Grizzlies, 3-2. Your cowgirls are now 5-14 overall, and 2-12 in RMAC.
 
First Set: The Cowgirls came out ready to play as they jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. Senior Caroline Hansen and Freshmen Brianna Montano paved the way for the Cowgirls to extend their lead to 18-8 forcing a Grizzlies timeout. The Cowgirls dominated most of the first set, and easily took the set 25-17.
 
Second Set: Looking to carry the momentum into the second set, the Cowgirls opened up a 6-0 lead, before a service error put the Grizzlies on the board. The Cowgirls forced a Grizzly timeout with the score at 9-3. The Grizzlies fought back to bring the score to 15-17. The Cowgirls extended their lead to 22-19 before a Adams State timeout stopped play. The Cowgirls finished the set strong behind Senior Jasmine Dixon as she continued her solid play.
 
Third Set: Both teams came out of the gate looking to compete as they raced out to a 5-5 tie. Neither team gave an inch, nor could they pull away from the other until the Grizzlies got a 3 point lead, causing a Cowgirls timeout. The Cowgirls started to let the set slip away from them as they trailed 14-21 before calling another timeout. They could not seem to comeback as they dropped the set 15-25.
 
Fourth Set: The fourth set started much like the third set did as both teams were trading points. The Grizzlies opened up a 7-4 lead before the Cowgirls stopped play with a timeout. Adams State was not willing to give up their lead as they went up 18-12. They would continue to control the set as they forced a fifth set with the 25-16 win.
 
Fifth Set: The Grizzlies picked up right where they left off from and commanded an early 5-1 advantage. The Cowgirls could not seem find any traction as they slipped to a 4-10 deficit before they put a run of their own together to bring the score to 7-10. The Cowgirls managed to pull themselves within one, but they could not close the deal and dropped the fifth set by a score of 10-15.
 
Final Score: Grizzlies- 3 Cowgirls- 2
 
The Cowgirls will return to action on November 1^st at 7:00 p.m. against the Colorado State-Pueblo Thunder Wolves.
