Cowgirls Fall in a Close One

Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands Women's Basketball team fell to the Rogers State Hill Cats, 49-52. Your Cowgirls are 0-1 overall, and 0-0 RMAC.
 
First Quarter: The Hill Cats got the game started with two 3 point shots. They ran the score to an early 9-0 before the Cowgirls answered back with a 2 of their own. Sophomore Kaylani Maiava Would score the first four points of the season for her team as they fought back to bring the score to 4-9. After a slow start, the Cowgirls were able to get the game under control. Maiava had 7 of Highlands 10 points in the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter: It took about 3 minutes for any points to go up on the score board. It would be Sophomore Ida Valencia that would break the ice with two free throws to bring the score to 12-18. The Hill Cats went on a 5-0 run before the Cowgirls were able to answer back with two more free throws. The score at the end of the first half was 27-18 with the Hill Cats leading.
 
Third Quarter: The Cowgirls opened up the second half on a 6-0 run to bring the score to 28-31. A jumper from Freshmen Kaelin Shaffer gave the Cowgirls the lead at 34-33. They lost the lead momentarily, but Sophomore Brianna Pribblenhit her second 3 point shot of the quarter to get the lead back for her team. They closed the third quarter with the lead, 40-36.
 
Fourth Quarter: Another Pribble 3 pointer put the Cowgirls up 44-36 with 9 minutes left in the game. The Hill Cats fought back to take the lead, but a Maiava jumper put Highlands back in the driver seat for a moment. The Hills Cats secured a 50-47 lead off of free throws, leaving 11 seconds on the clock. Pribble went up for the three and missed, but she had an opportunity for three free throws. She hit two of three, and the Hill Cats were able to secure the victory, 52-49.
 
Your Cowgirls will take to the court again on November 12th at 6:00 p.m. against Oklahoma State Panhandle University.
