Cowgirls Fall to In-State Rivals, Eastern New Mexico

Portales, NM- The New Mexico Highlands Women's team stumbled to the Eastern New Mexico University Grey Hounds, 48-75. Your Cowgirls drop to 1-2 overall.
 
First Quarter: The Grey Hounds came out of the gates sprinting as they commanded an early 8-0 lead before Freshmen Kaelin Shaffer could get the Cowgirls their first bucket of the game. The Cowgirls just could not get their wheels going on offense as Eastern opened up a 4-22 lead. Then, Sophomore Ida Valencia sunk a 3 point shot to close the gap a bit.
 
Second Quarter: The Cowgirls opened up the second quarter with another three. This time, it was Sophomore Brianna Pribble that knocked it in. the Grey Hounds followed that up with an 8-0 run of their own to bring the score to 10-30. Shaffer was the leading scorer for her team after one half with 6 points. The score at half was 19-37, Grey Hounds.
 
Third Quarter: The Grey Hounds extended their lead to 24-44 before Pribble sank another 3 pint shot. Eastern wanted to get out and run with the ball as they scored 3 straight baskets off of a fast break. There was a dry spot of the quarter where neither team put any points on the board until they traded free throws. Sophomore Kaylani Maiava was able to end the third quarter with a jumper for the Cowgirls.
 
Fourth Quarter: Maiava also opened up the fourth quarter with a jumper to bring the score to 34-58. Freshmen Juliana Gurule would nail a 3 point shot with just over three minutes left in the game. They could not muster up much after this, however, Gurule did hit another jumper to bring the score to 47-73.
 
Final Score: Cowgirls-48 Grey Hounds-75
 
The Cowgirls will travel to Las Cruces to take on the New Mexico State University Aggies on November 25^th at 5:00 p.m.
