Cowgirls Start Off RMAC Play With a Win

Alamosa, CO-  New Mexico Highlands Women's Basketball team take down  Adams State University Grizzlies by a convincing score of 77-62. Your Cowgirls improve their overall record to 2-2, and 1-0 in RMAC.

First Quarter:

Freshman Ari Baca got out to a hot start as she scored 4 of the first 6 points for the Cowgirls. Then Sophomore Brianna Pribble nailed a 3 pointer to give her team the lead momentarily. The Grizzlies would go on a 7-0 run to regain the lead, 9-15.  Then Sophomore Kaylani Maiava found a way to finally halt the run as she hit a jumper to end the first.

Second Quarter:

The Cowgirls opened up the second quarter on an 8-0 run of their own, including 6 points from Baca. A little later, Junior Shania Ratliff hit a shot from behind the line to extend the Cowgirls lead to 24-19. They would not stop their as Freshman Juliana Gurule hit a free throw to give them their biggest lead of the quarter at 36-25.

Third Quarter:

The Cowgirls picked up where they left off as Gurule hit a 3 point shot of her own to bring the score to 41-29. Baca continued to play solid as she got inside the paint for a lay up to give her team a 14 point lead. Then, Ratliff hit back to back treys to open up the score to 52-35.

Fourth Quarter:

The Grizzlies came out of the break determined to make it a game, but the Cowgirls had an answer for everything they threw at them. The Grizzlies were able to pull within 11 at 61-50, but that did not last long as Baca scored 3 straight points to help the Cowgirls pull away.  Maiava would score 7 straight points to end the game, and the Cowgirls would not look back as they handled the Grizzlies.

Final Score: Cowgirls-77 Grizzlies-62

Your Cowgirls travel to Durango, CO to face Fort Lewis College at 5:30 pm on Dec. 3.
