Skyhawks Too Much for Cowgirls

Durango, CO- The New Mexico Highlands Women's Basketball team fell to the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks by a score of 48-79. This drops your Cowgirls to 2-3 overall record and 1-1 in RMAC.

First Quarter: Freshman Ari Baca hit the first shot of the game for the Cowgirls but the Skyhawks flew out to an early 13-4 lead. They would go on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 22-4, before Sophomore Kaylani Maiava hit a shot to halt the run.

Second Quarter: The Cowgirls got out to a better start in the second quarter as they matched the Skyhawks first 4 points. Halfway through the quarter Kaitlyn Romero nailed a 3 point shot to give Fort Lewis a 29-12 lead. Highlands could not get going as they didn't hit a shot from the field until Sophomore Brianna Pribble hit a lay up to end the half.

Third Quarter: The Skyhawks opened up the third quarter with a 8-0 run. Finally, Maiava stopped the run as she was able to hit a three pointer. Later on, she was able to hit on another three pointer, her second of the quarter. She had a solid quarter for the Cowgirls, but it was not enough as the Skyhawks were able to close out the quarter leading, 55-33.

Fourth Quarter: Pribble opened up the quarter in a positive way as she hit a shot from behind the arc, fueling the Cowgirls in their 7-0 run. Maiava was the leading scorer for the Cowgirls as she scored 21 points.
