Late Free Throws Seals Win For Cowboys

Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo.- The Cowboys traveled to Denver to face the team that game them their first conference loss of the season in Colorado Christian. The Cowboys would win the revenge game 100-92.
 
The Cowboys score first on a Marlon Johnson jumper. Christian then answer on a Cowboys turnover with a lay-up of their own. The Mines would then score on a nice floater to make it a 4-2 game. Some good Cowboy defense forced some Cougars bad shots. On the next Cowboys possession Lawton would knock down a shot from the left wing to put the Cowboys up 7-2. The Cougar's McCullough would knock down a three at the 16:13 mark to make it a Cowboys 9-7 lead.
 
Coming out of the media timeout on the second Cowboys' possession Marlon Johnson drove baseline and through one down with the right hand. To make it a 17-12 game at 13:03. With 11:10 on the clock the Cougars had their first lead of the game on a Lane three from the left wing to put them up 20-19.
 
Their lead would not last long as Johnson would knock down two free throws to make it a 21-20 Cowboys lead. Andre Hardy would find Johnson in transition for a monstrous alley-oop. The Cougars would hit another three to make it a 23-23 game.   
 
The last four minutes of the first half would be huge. Coming out of he under four media timeout the Cowboys would force a stop and then get an offensive rebound where Nichols would knock down a shot from the right corner. A Mines floater would force the Cougars to call a timeout after the 5-0 run. The Cougars would get shots from McGee, Taylor, and Sallba for make it a 43-31 game with just 1:23 left in the first half.  All tied at 43 the Cowboys would have the last shot where Macias would knock down a highly contested three at the buzzer to the give Cowboys the 46-43 lead at the half.
 
The second half started in the Cowboy's favor. The Cowboys would get a steal and a tip in by Mines. Then off a Cougar's missed shot Shane would get on the the floor for the loss ball and would find Lawton who took the ball in transition and flew high and finished the dunk! The Cowboys would continue their run with a right wing three from Mines that made it a 53-45 Cowboy lead.
 
The Cowboys would extend their run to 18-9 in the first 7:30 of the second half to make it a 64-51 Cowboy lead. The Cougars would start to claw their way back into the game off a couple of free throws and a fast break lay-up by McGee to make it a 69-62 game with 10:00 left in the game. The Cowboys would then call a timeout but coming of out the timeout the Cougars would hit a three to make it a four-point game.  The Cougars would hit another three with 8:59 on the clock to make it a one-point game. The Cowboys would answer with Lawton jumper, then a Lawton steal, followed by Lawton going hitting one of two on the charity stripe to make it a 72-68 Cowboy lead.
 
With a 76-68 lead and 6:30 left in the game Mines would head to the line where he would knock down to the shot. At the 4:36 mark Lane would drain a three from the right corner to make it an 81-76 game. Mines would then drive and get fouled hitting the jumper and finished the old fashioned three-point play.  The Cougars would come back down and hit another three to make it an 84-81 Cowboy lead.
 
2:24 left in the game when Lawton hit two free throws to make it an 88-81 lead with just 2:30 left in the game.  McLemore would draw a foul after a steal and knock down two freebies to make is an 88-84 game. Mines got the ball after the free throws and pushed the ball to mid court where he drew a foul on McLemore. He would hit two free throws to grow the Cowboys lead to sic, 90-84. After two more Cougars made free throws, Mines would commit an offensive foul to give the Cougars the ball back with 1:15 left before the Cowboys would get the stop.
 
With 50 seconds on the clock Logan the Australian would hit his seventh three to give the Cowboys the 93-86 lead with 38 seconds showing on the clock. The Cowboys would take the game by a score of 100-92.
