Exciting Win Cowboy Win Over #20 Pueblo

LAS VEGAS, N.M.- It was an action-packed Senior Night for the Cowboy wrestling squad at John A. Wilson Complex! It came down to the last dual but the Cowboys came away with a 19-18 win over #20 CSU-Pueblo.
 
In the first duel, heavyweight Jacob Mitchell defeated Highlands' Corbin Grenowich at the 0:51 mark giving the Thunderwolves a six point lead at the start of the match. Cowboy Jacob Espana won by forfeit, tying the score 6-6 in the second dual. Senior Tre Humphrey defeated Sam Hughes in an 8-3 decision, giving Highlands their first lead of the night at 9-6. Fellow senior Dan Gaylor defeated Kyle Fantin in an exciting 10-6 decision in the fourth dual bringing the score to 12-6.
 
In the fifth dual, Thunderwolf Tim Urenda defeated Sophomore Reis Humphrey in a 3-1 sudden victory. Dixon Richards defeated Cowboy Orlando Guerra in a 7-5 sudden victory, tying the score at 12-12. Pueblo's Kyle Bateman defeated Juan Alvarado in a well-fought dual for the Highlands senior in a 3-1 decision, giving CSUP the lead at 15-12. Josh Castellano defeated sophomore Cowboy Jacob Hawthrone in a 9-3 decision, increasing the Thunderwolves lead by another 3 points. Junior Cowboy Luis Terrazas defeated John Lewis in a 5-2 decision, bringing the score to a close 18-15, in favor of the Thunderwolves.
 
In a thrilling final dual, Cowboy Cody Marquez defeated Augie Dedantis in a 10-0 major decision giving the Cowboys an additional four points, making the final score 19-18. A great win for Cowboys!
 
"Senior night went perfect!" remarked an enthusiastic Dan Gaylor. "We beat Pueblo for the first time in Highlands wrestling history. I got a win, Tre got a win, and it came down to the last match. It's perfect. Coach Mo is pleased. It's going to be a good day tomorrow."
