Cowboys And Mustangs Meet Up One Final Time

SILVER CITY, N.M.- After a big Cowboy victory on Saturday evening, the squad will finish off conference play with their last regular season game in Silver City against the Western New Mexico Mustangs on Friday, February 26th. This could also be the last time the two teams play for a while as the Mustangs will be moving to the Lone Star Conference over the summer.

The Cowboys will be the favored of the two teams on Friday, with a conference record of 13-8, while the Mustangs holding a conference record of 1-20. The Cowboys will be looking to give the Mustangs their 26th loss of their season.

Coach Snow comments on previous encounters with the Mustangs, "It's always tough playing at Western. It was a difficult game here in December. We are looking forward to another tough matchup."

In their first RMAC match of the season, the Cowboys dominated the Mustangs in an impressive win of 84-64. The Cowboys had four players in double-digits with Jonathon Mines leading the group with 20 points and 10 rebounds to give him a double-double. After essentially playing shot-for-shot with the Mustangs in the first half, the Cowboys pulled away with a lead of 19, beginning with two monster dunks from forwards Marlon Johnson and Ron Lawton. The Cowboys plan for a repeat show on Friday.

Senior Jonathon Mines gives his thoughts going into Friday's game.

"I am very excited for this week's game. It is very important that we stay focused as a collective group, stay discipline to our game plan and the make sure we handle our business down in Silver City," comments Mines. "I think knowing that it is my last collegiate regular season game, I am going to give it all I got and be a nightmare for Western New Mexico."

Well that sounds good to us, Johnathan! Go Cowboys! Beat the Mustangs!
