St. George, Utah- New Mexico Highlands University Football open up their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at newcomers Dixie State University. Your Cowboys play on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6 pm.
This is the first time the Cowboys and the Trailblazers they will play against each other on the football fields.
NMHU Cowboys:
Last season the Cowboys record was 2-9 overall record and 2-7 RMAC record. The Cowboys passed for an average of 176.6 yards per game and obtained an average of 140 rushing yards per game.
Senior quarterback
Cody Keith will take the reins of the offense. In May 2014, Keith earned a bachelor's degree in communications during his time at East Carolina University and was selected to ECU's Honor Roll (3.0 GPA) in nearly every semester as an undergraduate. He is currently working on his Masters in Human Performance and Sports at Highlands. Senior running back
Davonte Lynch returns after leading the team in rushing with 777 yards on the season and three touchdowns.
Senior linebacker
Erick Zarate returns as the leader in tackles from last year's team, finishing the season with 54 tackles. Senior
James Foster, who will play wide receiver this season, recorded 32 tackles for NMHU last season.
Dixie State Trailblazers:
Last season the Dixie State record was 3-7 overall and 2-4 GNAC record. The Trailblazers passed for an average of 139.5 per game and ran for an average of 238.3 per game.
Returning for Dixie State, Sophomore Blake Barney will take on his second season as the quarterback. Last season Barney threw a total of 642 yard with three touchdowns. Senior running back Dejon Coleman ran a total of 848 yards with ten touchdowns for the season.
Junior defensive back Colton Olson led the Bison defense with a total of 100 tackles on the season.
