Box Score Lakewood, Colo. - New Mexico Highlands Volleyball fell in straight sets to the Cougars of Colorado Christian University on Saturday September 17
th. The Cowgirls record evens up at 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Cougars increase their overall record to 7-4 and 1-1 in the RMAC.
Both teams battled it out in the first set. The Cougars had a lead of 2 points but then Senior
Caroline Hansen had back-to-back kills which made the score 2-2. After a few attack errors made by the Cowgirls, the Cougars gained a strong lead. However, the tides turned when the Cougars started making errors that allowed the Cowgirls to come back and tie the score at 8-8. The teams continued to battle it out and go back and forth with the lead. Redshirt Junior
Jasmine Dixon had back-to-back kills and tied the score at 19-19. The Cougars fought hard and won the set 22-25.
In the second set, the Cowgirls came out strong with
Jasmine Dixon having an outstanding kill. She also led the team with three blocks that tied the set at 11-11. Through the whole set the Cowgirls battled their hearts out for every point. The set ended 22-25 in favor of the Cougars.
In the third and final set the Cowgirls got the first point on an error by Sophia Proano.
Caroline Hansen had two kills in a row, which brought the score to 3-4. The Cougars came out strong and had a seven-point lead, but
Caroline Hansen was not done and had a kill. The Cowgirls came back strong and were behind by one with a score of 17-18 however the Cougars took the set and match by a final score of 18-25.

The Cowgirls will travel to Portales, New Mexico on Tuesday, September 20th for a match against in-state rivals, Eastern New Mexico University. The match will begin at 6pm and Live Stats will be available through our website.
