Salt Lake City, Utah - The New Mexico Highlands Women's Basketball team lost to Westminster College (Utah) tonight (Feb. 11) 54-36. The Cowgirls fall to a 2-20 overall record and 1-18 RMAC.
In the first quarter,  Junior Mele Tupouata got the Cowgirls going with a lay-up. After that the Griffins went on a 7-0 run  which brought the score to 9-2. Tupouata got herself to the free throw line and knocked down both. Then with a lay-up from Sophomore Kaylani Maiava , the Cowgirls went into the second quarter down by 5.
As the second quarter began, the Griffins came out with an And One play that brought their lead up by 8. With a three by Freshman Juliana Gurule, the Cowgirls got within 5 points again. Â The Cowgirls went into half time down by 10.

At the start of the third, the Griffins went on a 6-0 run, but then Gurule hit a jump shot to get the Cowgirls going. The Griffins continued to knock down shots and the Cowgirls were behind 38-20.
As both team went into the fourth quarter, Maiava started off with a lay-up to bring the lead down by 16. The Cowgirls tried to battle back but Westminster grabbed the win.

Cowgirls return home this Saturday, February 18th, to face Colorado School of Mines in the John A. Wilson Complex at 5pm for Senior Night.
