Cowboys Fall to Thunderwolves in Game One

Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands University Baseball team fell to the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunder Wolves,8-14. Your Cowboys drop to 7-13 overall and 3-4 RMAC.
 
Senior Phil Trujillo started the game at pitcher for the Cowboys. The Thunder Wolves were able to get one run across in the top of the first. Senior Easton Garcia led off the bottom of the inning with a single to center field. Junior James Cordova brought Garcia home with a single of his own a few moments later. Junior Eduardo Perez reached on an error by the Thunder Wolves, allowing Senior Jeremy McCarty to score, making the score 2-1, Cowboys.
 
After a rough second inning in which he saw 6 runs scored, Trujillo was replaced by Senior Dylan Norris.
 
Norris played well and the Cowboys made up the lost ground in the bottom of the fourth inning as Sophomore Travis Spruiell got on with a single. Junior Codie Simmons helped advance Spruiell to third as he notched a single to center. Then, Sophomore Joseph Cilladi slapped a single to third, allowing Spruiell to score. Garcia was up next as he reached on an error, giving Simmons the green light to go score. Senior Brad Blackwell continued the rally as he nailed a two RBI double, getting Garcia and Cilladi across for a pair of runs. Ornelas put the cherry on top of the 6 run inning as he stepped up and crushed a two run home run, bringing Blackwell him with him. After four innings the score was 8-7, Cowboys.
 
Norris pitched two more solid innings as he protected the lead until he was relieved for Junior Brett Martin in the top of the seventh. The Thunder Wolves caught fire as they rallied for another 6 runs in the inning to retake the lead at 13-8.
 
The Thunder Wolves would add one more run to their total in the top of the ninth inning. Simmons led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, but the Cowboys could not get much going as they were retired before they could get a run across. They would fall in their series opener, 14-8.
 
The Cowboys return to action tomorrow, March 18th, at 12:00 p.m. in their second game against the Thunder Wolves.
