Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands University Baseball team outlasted the Regis University Rangers, 6-5. The Cowboys improve their overall record to 9-15 overall and 5-8 RMAC.

Junior pitcher
Dakota Pacheco got out to a great start today as he sat the Ranger batters down in order in the top of the first. Senior
Brad Blackwell was the only Cowboy to reach base in the bottom of the inning as he walked.

Pacheco held the Rangers in check for most of the second inning, until they hit a solo homer to take the 1-0 lead. Junior
James Cordova found base in the bottom of the inning with a single, but he would be left stranded.

Pacheco pitched well in the top of the fourth as he retired the Rangers in order. Blackwell led off the bottom of the inning with a double down the right field line. Senior
Jeremy McCarty was able to get Blackwell home as he slapped a single up the middle.

Regis had one runner score in the top of the fifth as they hit back to back doubles, bringing the score to 2-1.

The Rangers extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning.

The Rangers were able to score 2 more runs in the top of the eighth off of 2 hits. Blackwell got the Cowboys going in the bottom of the inning with a single. Junior
Luis Ornelas came up next and also got on base with a single. With two outs, McCarty came up to the plate and crushed a 3 run homer to bring the score to 4-5, Rangers.

The Cowboys field played a solid ninth inning as they kept the Rangers from scoring another run. Junior
Eduardo Perez led off the bottom of the inning with a single. Sophomore
Joseph Cilladi came up with a big hit, and with a little help from the Regis field, he reached, allowing Perez to cross home plate to knot up the score at 5-5. Senior
Easton Garcia came up to the plate with the game winning run on base and two outs. He slapped a clutch single that allowed Cilladi to cross the plate for the win. The Cowboys took their first game of this series, 6-5.
