Cowboys Split Series With Oredigger

LasVegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands University Baseball team edged out the Colorado School of Mines Ore Diggers, 10-4. Your Cowboys improve to 6-9 overall and 2-1 RMAC.
 
Junior pitcher Joe Brennan started the game for the Cowboys, and after a solid first inning, he allowed two runs off of four hits in the top of the second inning. Juniors Eduardo Perez and James Cordova found themselves on base with singles, but they would be left stranded.
 
Brennan answered by retiring the Ore Diggers in order in the top of the third inning. The Cowboys finally got their bats going as Sophomore Joseph Cilladi led off with a single. Senior Easton Garcia also knocked in a single to get two on base with no outs. Senior Brad Blackwell grounded out, but he still allowed Cilladi to get the first run on the board for the Cowboys. Senior Jeremy McCarty came up to the plate and blasted a two run homer to put his team iin the driver's seat at 3-2.
 
The Cowboys gave up one run in the top of the fourth inning, but Senior pitcher Dylan Norris came on in the top of the fifth and kept the Ore Diggers from scoring more. Garcia led off the bottom of the inning with a single. Blackwell came up big for his team as he slapped a double that put him and Garcia in scoring position. After McCarty was intentionally walked to load the bases, Perez was hit with a pitch, allowing Garcia to score. Then, Cordova hit a single that gave McCarty and Blackwell the opportunity to score.
 
Norris finally gave up a run in the top of the eighth, but he limited the damage as the Ore Diggers only got one across. Once again, Garcia led off the bottom of the inning with a single. Junior Luis Ornelas hit a double down the left field line, setting up a Garcia score off of a wild throw. Ornelas found his way home after an Ore Digger error. The Cowboys would finish the game off strong as they won, 10-4.
 
The Cowboys will hit the road as they take on the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners on March 10th.
