Cowgirls Split Day Two

Colorado Springs, CO- The New Mexico Highlands University Softball team concluded their series with the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs Mountain Lions today with a doubleheader.
 
University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions Game 3
Junior Christian Bobian led off the top of the first inning with a nice double to left field. Bobian would be brought home later as Sophomore Breanna Cabrera hit a single to left. Senior pitcher Madison Davis was on the mound for the first game of the day. She only allowed one hit in the first inning.
 
Senior Brittany Moya got on base to lead off the top of the second. Bobian would single to right field, bringing Moya home to make the score 2-0. Davis sat the Mountain Lions down in order in the bottom of the inning.
 
The Mountain Lions scored 3 runs off of 3 hits in the bottom of the third inning.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, Bobian found herself on base once again. Senior Victoria Gonzales picked up the RBI as she brought Bobian home with a single. The Mountain Lions were able to score another 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, giving them the 6-3 lead.
 
Sophomore Jade Callister led off the top of the sixth with a single. She wasn't on base for long as Freshmen Leah Osborn came up and smacked a two run homer over the fence. Davis held off the Mountain Lion sin the bottom of the inning, making the score 5-6 entering the seventh.
 
The Cowgirls would go down in order in the top of the seventh, giving the Mountain Lions the 6-5 victory.
 
University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions Game 4
Bobian and Gonzales both got on base with singles to start the second game of the day. Callister wasted no time as she hit a single that would bring Bobian home for the first score of the game. Cabrera also hit a single, scoring Gonzales to give the Cowgirls two early runs. Osborn came up to the plate and blasted her second homer of the day, scoring Callister and Cabrera as well. Sophomore pitcher Desiree Bogarin was on the mound for the second game. The Mountain Lions would also come out fast as they scored three runs in the bottom of the inning.
 
The Mountain Lions were able to score one run in the bottom of the third off of a solo home run, bringing the score to 5-4, Cowgirls.
 
Senior Katelyn Bates led off the top of the fourth with a single, then Senior Jamie Weatherbee came in to pinch run. Callister would bring Weatherbee home with a single. Moya would pick up the RBI as she hit the single that would bring Cabrera home. The bases were loaded and Senior Monica Caporal was hit with a pitch, scoring Osborn. Bobian kept the rally going as she singled to center, scoring Junior Baylee Legarreta. It was Gonzales' turn to pick up an RBI as she brought Moya home with a single. Bates reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Caporal to find home plate. Callister capped off the rally with a double, scoring Bobian. The Cowgirls would explode for seven runs in the inning.
 
The Cowgirls would pick up two more runs in the top of the fifth as Junior Sami Kouns and Moya would score. Bogarin would handle the Mountain Lions in the bottom of the inning as she sat them down in order.
 
The Cowgirls would secure the 14-5 victory in the last game of the series.
 
The Cowgirls will wrap up their regular season as they take on the Regis University Rangers on April 29th.
