The HU women's volleyball team grabbed a non-conference victory over state rival Eastern New Mexico University in an electric 3-2 match (22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 16-14) Tuesday night in Wilson Complex in Las Vegas.
After racing out to a 10-5 lead in set one behind the rocket arm of hitter
Brianna Montano, the Cowgirls  let the Hounds back in the match. A critical overule of a sideline call at 16-all gave Eastern the lead and the visitors took the set 25-22.
Eastern rode the first set momentum to a 20-16 lead in the second. The Cowgirls responded by working the middle of the net to tie the score at 20 and pull away for a 25-22 reversal of the first set score.
The teams traded wins in the third and fourth sets to set up the deciding fifth set.
Neither squad could gain a real advantage in the fifth set until a smash down the line by
Tiffany Matchet at 12-12. The kill left a Hound defender sprawled on the court and energized the both the Cowgirls and the home crowd as the Cowgirls  battled for a 16-14 win to settle the match.
Matchet (23 kills) and
Sierra Foley (11) led the Cowgirl attack along with Montano (10) while Shayli Shulz was credited with an incredible 56 assists along with 14 digs for the match.

Cynthia Norris (4) were the night's top blockers.
The Cowgirls take the long trip to South Dakota for matches with South Dakota Mines on Friday, Sept 22 and Black Hills State on Saturday. Sept 23.
