LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team finds itself in a four-way tie for the eighth and final spot into the RMAC Tournament as the Cowgirls hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they travel to take on MSU Denver Friday and Chadron State on Saturday.
COWGIRLS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
The Cowgirls dropped a pair of matches at home last weekend as they fell to No. 22 Colorado School of Mines on Friday and UC Colorado Springs on Saturday to drop to 4-7 in conference play. NMHU is tied with Black Hills State, Westminster and Fort Lewis for the eight spot with those four teams three games back of seventh place.
Tiffany Matchett continues to lead the Cowgirls at 2.93 kills per set while
Cynthia Norris is at 2.14 kills per set.
Celina Naranjo (5.09 assists per set),
Samantha Sjogren (3.79) and
Soleil Gandara (3.19) have all seen time recently at setter for the Cowgirls with Naranjo leading the team with 17 aces.
Elena Rivera leads the team with 5.08 digs per set.
ABOUT MSU DENVER | SEASON STATS
The Roadrunners are on a four-match winning streak heading into Friday's contest with the Cowgirls - only dropping one set during that stretch. Their only losses this season in conference have been to Regis and Colorado Mesa.
MSU Denver has two players averaging more than three kills per set in Taylor Duryea (3.34) and Santaisha Sturges (3.20). The Roadrunners have two primary setters in Morgan Weatherwax (6.10 assists per set) and Jessa Megenhardt (5.14). Lyric Hebert leads the team in digs per set (4.71) while Stephanie Laraway (0.92) and Alyssa Kelling (0.89) are averaging nearly a block per set.
ABOUT CHADRON STATE | SEASON STATS
The Eagles have dropped back-to-back matches since winning two in a row, falling Friday and Saturday on the road to Dixie State (3-0) and Westminster (3-1), respectively.
Brooke Gardner (2.65) and Aracely Hernandez (2.62) lead the team in kills per set, Madison Webb is the team's primary setter (9.43 assists per set) and Ashton Burditt is tops on the team in digs per set (5.81).
