DENVER --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) decision to Metropolitan State University Denver on Friday night at the Auraria Event Center.
The Cowgirls (6-14 overall, 4-8 RMAC) finished with a .177 hitting percentage compared to .355 for MSU Denver (13-6, 9-2).
After dropping the first two sets, the Cowgirls in the third set rallied from an 11-7 deficit with a 3-0 run with kills from
Julie Staffler and
Cynthia Norris to cut the lead to 11-10. But a 7-2 run by the Roadrunners pushed the lead to 18-12 and the Cowgirls wouldn't get within three points the rest of the way and fell 25-18.
Camryn Nelson led the team with six kills while
Cynthia Norris had five and
Taley Ferrari and Staffler had four.
Celina Naranjo had a team-best 14 assists and six digs.
NMHU returns to action Saturday as the Cowgirls travel to take on Chadron State.
