Cowboys host home opener Saturday versus USW

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball plays its home opener 4 p.m. Saturday as the Cowboys take on NAIA foe University of the Southwest at Wilson Complex.

THE COWBOYS COMING INTO THIS WEEK | SEASON STATS
The Cowboys avenged a season-opening loss to Western New Mexico by beating the Mustangs 70-67 on Wednesday night in Silver City. NMHU trailed early, but used its press to force 20-plus turnovers - and despite going 1-for-19 from 3-point range - was able to come away with the win. NMHU has now won seven of their last eight meetings against WNMU.

On the season, Gerad Davis leads the team in scoring at 21.3 points per game while shooting 51.9 percent from teh field. He's also averaging 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.0 assist per game. Jordan Jones is second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per contest and has hit a team-best six 3-pointers while Raquan Mitchell is averaging 12 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals. Nnamdi Okoro leads the team at 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per contest along with 9.7 points per game.

As a team, the Cowboys are averaging 77.3 points and are shooting 43.5 percent from the field, including 25 percent from 3-point range.

The Mustangs enter Saturday's contest having lost three in a row, including a 92-73 loss to Wayland Baptist on the road Tuesday.

Six-foot-7 senior Ron'Quis Lewis leads the team in scoring at 19.8 points per game to go along with 6.3 rebounds per contest and shooting 43.5 percent from beyond the arc. Six-foot-6 Emmanuel McNeil is averaging 13 points and a team-best 8.4 rebounds per game while Demond Parker is averaging 11 points while 6-foot-3 guard Josh Harris is at 10.4 points per game.

As a team, USW is averaging 75.8 points while allowing 92 points per contest. The Mustangs are shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from 3-point range.
