Cowgirls eager to get back on track at home this weekend

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's soccer team looks to bounce back after an 0-2 start to conference play against two of the top teams in the conference last weekend when the Cowgirls host Colorado Christian 5 p.m. Friday and No. 7 Colorado School of Mines 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Cowgirls opened RMAC play with arguably the toughest road swing in the conference in falling to No. 11 Metropolitan State University Denver 4-0 on Friday and to defending RMAC Tournament champion, 2017 NCAA DII Final Four competitor and preseason ranked No. 3 UC Colorado Springs 8-0.

The Cougars also dropped their first two RMAC contests last weekend, falling on the road in a pair of close games to Colorado Mesa 1-0 and Western State Colorado 2-1. Six different players have scored CCU's six goals on the year while goalkeeper Ireland VanDyke has a goals against average of 1.07. The Cougars have allowed one or fewer goals in five of their six matches this season.

ABOUT NO. 7 COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES (5-1-1, 2-0) | SEASON STATS

The Orediggers started RMAC play with a pair of 1-0 wins on the road over Western State and Colorado Mesa last weekend, though they did suffer their first defeat Wednesday when they fell on the road to No. 15 Western Washington 2-1 on Wednesday. It marks the first two goals Mines has allowed in a game this season after shutting out their first six opponents. Jennifer Kendall leads the Orediggers in scoring wit three goals and an assists while Nicole LaTourette has two goals and an assist. Mines' keeper Shannon Mooney saw her goals against average raise to 0.28 after the two goals allowed on Wednesday. The defense has been strong for the Orediggers as they are allowing less than six shots per game, including less than three shots on goal per contest.
