LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands University women's soccer team this week plays its final two games before beginning conference play – with both games at home against Eastern New Mexico 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and University of Texas-Permian Basin 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Sanchez Family Stadium.

LAST WEEK FOR THE COWGIRLS | SEASON STATS

The Cowgirls opened the season 0-2 after dropping a pair of one-goal games to Midwestern State (2-1 in overtime on Thursday) and St. Mary's University (Texas) (3-2 on Saturday at home).

Against Midwestern State, NMHU's Tania Salcedo scored in the second half to tie the match, but Midwestern scored 20 seconds into overtime to pick up the victory. In their home opener against St. Mary's, the Cowgirls were tied 1-1 at the half with the Rattlers thanks to a Carly Griego goal, but fell behind 3-1 early in the first half after St. Mary's scored twice within a minute span. Nitza Rodriguez scored on an assist from Salcedo in the 84th minute, but NMHU couldn't find the equalizer in the final minutes.

ABOUT ENMU | SEASON STATS

Eastern New Mexico enters Wednesday's contest 0-0-1 after tying St. Mary's 1-1 at home on Aug. 30. The Greyhounds fell behind 1-0 before a goal by Hayden Zuniga in the 63rd minute tied the match.  The Greyhounds were picked to finish sixth out of seven teams in the Lone Star Conference's preseason poll after going 5-9-6 last season.

ABOUT UTPB | SEASON STATS

UTPB is 0-2 heading into this week after opening the season with a 3-0 loss to RMAC school Colorado Mesa on Friday and a 3-2 defeat to Texas A&M International on Sunday – both contests at home. In the Sunday loss, UTPB took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a Lea Walenta goal before the Dustdevils scored three goals in a row to make it 3-1. UTPB's Kalee Overmeyer scored in the 87th minute, but that's as close as the Falcons would get. The Falcons were picked to finish last (seventh) in the Lone Star Conference in its preseason poll after going 1-15-1 last season.
