LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands wrestling team was right there, but fell short in its first dual of the season to Chadron State 25-21 on Friday night at Wilson Complex.
Â
The Cowboys trailed the Eagles 22-15 with two matches left after NMHU's
Luke Allan came away with a quick pin of Chadron State's Jay Westcott at 184 pounds.
Â
But the Eagles were able to clinch the match at 197 with a win in an 11-6 decision by Wade French.
Â
NMHU also got a pin from
Julian Sanchez at heavyweight, a forfeit win by
Adrian George at 125 and a 7-3 decision win by
Jonathan Trujillo at 141 – but wins by Chadron State at 133 (pin), 149, 157, 165 and 174 along with the victory at 197 was enough for the Eagles.
Â
The Cowboys return to action 6 p.m. Saturday as they host Colorado School of Mines at Wilson Complex in their final home dual of the season.
