LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands wrestling team had some exciting moments Saturday night, but couldn't do enough to defeat Colorado School of Mines – falling 26-18 at Wilson Complex.
Â
The Cowboys opened the dual with a pair of exciting wins by decision as
Adrian George used an escape (one point) and a takedown (two points) in the final minute of the third period to pick up a 5-4 win at 125 pounds while
Isaac Garcia at 133 pounds used a takedown with 45 seconds left to beat Colorado School of Mines' Noah Au-Yeung (an NCAA qualifier last season) 2-1 as NMHU jumped out to a 6-0 lead.
Â
After NMHU's
Jonathan Trujillo dropped a 2-1 decision at 141 pounds, the Cowboys'
Logan Pine hung on for a 5-4 victory at 149 pounds over CSM's Noah Ottum to give NMHU a 9-3 lead.
Â
But the Cowboys dropped the next four weight classes – including a pair of pins and a forfeit (six points each for the Orediggers) – as a 3-1 win by NMHU's
Chris Collins at 197 and a win via forfeit (injury) for
Julian Sanchez at heavyweight wasn't enough.
Â
NMHU hits the road next week as they travel to compete in the Bronco Duals on Saturday hosted by Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska.
