Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team (1-17, 0-10 RMAC) lost two games over the weekend as they fell to UC-Colorado Springs (UCCS) 3-0 on Friday night and Colorado Mines 3-0 on Saturday.
AGAINST UCCS: The Mountain Lions started on fire as they were able to take an early advantage in the first two sets (10-2 first set, 13-7 second set). The Mountain Lions would win the first two sets (25-14, 25-16) fairly easy, as the Cowgirl defense couldn't find an answer for the Mountain Lions hitters. The Cowgirls were able to put up more of a fight in the third set but fell short as the Mountain Lions would win the set 25-22.
Taley Ferrari (2 blocks) and
Keegan Lopez would lead the way for the Cowgirls in kills with 6 apiece.
Anissa Hernandez (2 blocks) and
Maddie Gould would also add 5 each for the Cowgirls.
Bryanna Lopez would lead the Cowgirl defense with 11 digs and
Stacy Johnson would add 5 more.
AGAINST COLORADO MINES: Again, the Cowgirls would have a slow start as the Orediggers would take the first two sets, with ease, 25-14. The Cowgirls would find themselves battling the Orediggers in the third set after an Oredigger service error cut the lead to 22-20. The Orediggers would then score the next 3 points to win the set 25-20.
Bayley Willis (2 blocks) had herself a night on the right side as she led the Cowgirls in kills with 8 on the night.
Stacy Johnson (6 kills, 3 blocks) and
Keegan Lopez (5 kills, 1 block) would also aid the Cowgirl offense against the Orediggers.
Anissa Hernandez (2 kills) led the way for the Cowgirls in blocks with 4.
Bryanna Lopez was also able to tally 8 digs.
The Cowgirls will be back in action next weekend where they will take on Chadron State on Friday at 7 pm and MSU-Denver on Saturday at 5 pm for Senior Night.
