Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Justin Bustos

Women's Soccer lose to Colorado Christian & #9 Mines

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands Soccer (0-6, 0-4 RMAC) team traveled to Denver,CO over the weekend where they faced Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines.

AGAINST COLORADO CHRISTIAN: The Cowgirls played hard against the Cougars in the first half as their defense stepped up big. They held the Cougars to 5 shots before finally scoring in the 37th minute. The Cowgirls would hold on strong in the first half, and go in to halftime down 1. The Cougars would score 2 quick goals in the second half, and eventually win the game 5-0.

The Cowgirls fought against the Cougar defense as they took 6 shots with 4 of them being on goal. Cheyenne Delgado and Janis Martinez took two shots a piece with a shot each on goal. Carly Griego and Rina Perez also had a shot on goal for the Cowgirls. Keeper Karina Vega was able to tally 3 saves on 24 shots attempts, 8 of which were on goal.

AGAINST COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES: The Orediggers came in to the weekend ranked #9 in the country but the Cowgirls gave it everything they had. The Orediggers started the game with 2 goals that came within minutes of each other but the Cowgirls would seem to settle in, defensively. After only allowing Mines to take 5 shots after the goals, the Orediggers were able to find the back of the net right before half and would lead 3-0. The second half was again, a defensive battle for the Cowgirls as they held the Orediggers to only 1 goal off 7 shots. The Orediggers would win the contest 4-0.

The Cowgirls attempted 4 shots, 2 of which were on goal. Cheyenne Delgado, Bryana Garcia, Monique Nevarez, and Lareina Romero would attempt a shot for the Cowgirls with Nevarez and Garcia's shots' being on goal. Katherine Scott held it down for the Cowgirls in the goal as she was able to tally in 9 saves on the day off 20 shot attempts from the Orediggers.

The Cowgirls will be back in action this weekend as they will travel to Pueblo, CO to take on the Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves at 12 pm on Sunday October 6th.
