Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands women's and men's basketball teams will host Northern New Mexico tonight starting at 5 pm at the Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, NM. Free admission will be granted to those who bring a canned-food or non-perishable item (minimum of 1 item per person).
ABOUT NORTHERN NEW MEXICO WOMEN: The Eagles are 1-9 on the season after losing their last 9 games and have lost every game on the road this season. Their most recent loss was an 86-49 loss against the University of Science and Arts (Okla). The Eagles average 55.9 points per game on 34% shooting from the field and 24% from three. The Eagles also average 36 rebounds, 7 assists and 6.5 steals per contest. Haley Evans leads the way on offense for the Eagles as she is averaging 11.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Ahmaya Smith (9.2 points, 4.5 rebounds), Zhane Lewis (8.9 points), and Chris'Alee Patterson (3 points, 5 rebounds) will finish out the Eagles balanced attack.
ABOUT NORTHERN NEW MEXICO MEN: The Eagles are 1-7 on the season as their most recent game was a 92-69 loss to RMAC foe Fort Lewis on Friday night. The Eagles average 73.8 points per game off 42% shooting from the field and 31% from three. The Eagles average 42 rebounds and 11 assists per contest but average 16.5 turnovers per game. The Eagles have three players averaging double figures in Tyrique Weaver (15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds), Estevan Martinez (13.8 points, 4.4 rebounds), and Naquwan Solomon (13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists). Weaver is also their leading rebounder and Alexander Oguinn is right behind averaging 6 rebounds and adding 8.6 points per contest.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS: The Cowgirls are 0-3 on the season as they beat Northern New Mexico 71-63 on the road in an exhibition match-up. The Cowgirls are coming off a 77-48 loss against Fort Lewis as the Skyhawks made a fourth quarter push to outscore the Cowgirls 33-16 in the quarter. The Cowgirls average 58.8 points per game while shooting 37% from the field and 31% from three. The Cowgirls also average 29 rebounds, 11 assists, and 8.5 steals per contest.
Jordyn Lewis will continue to lead the relatively young Cowgirls squad as she averages 18.5 points per contest while also grabbing 3 boards per game and 12 assists on the season.
Desiree Forster (11.8 points, 3 rebounds),
Ashley Antone (11.3 points, 6 rebounds), and
Maiah Rivas (8.5 points, 4.5 assists) will also look to aid the Cowgirls over the Eagles.

Sammy Barnes-Thompkins leads the way as he averages 24 points per game and has tallied 13 steals so far on the season and
Raquan Mitchell averages 20.7 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Cowboys.
Desmond Carpenter (13 points, 4.3 rebounds) and
Darius Harrison (10 points, 7.7 rebounds) will also look to aid the Cowboys over the Eagles in tonight's match-up.
