Cowgirls lose back-to-back against Fort Lewis and Adams State

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands Women's basketball team dropped a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchups this weekend against Fort Lewis on Friday night and Adams State on Saturday night.
 
AGAINST FORT LEWIS (6-1, 2-0 RMAC): The Skyhawks jumped out to an early 26-13 after the first quarter and the Cowgirls (1-6, 0-2 RMAC) never seemed to catch up from that point. The Skyhawks would go on to win the game 79-66. The Cowgirls connected on 19 of 58 (32.8%) shot attempts which included 11 of 35 (31.4%) from the three point line and also grabbed 34 rebounds on the night. Jordyn Lewis led the way for the Cowgirls scoring 29 points while grabbing 3 rebounds. Brianna Stewart made her season debut after missing the first five games due to injury as she connected on 4 of her 14 shot attempts and finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Ashley Antone (7 points, 4 rebounds) and Maiah Rivas (5 points, 4 assists) also aided the Cowgirls.
 
AGAINST ADAMS STATE (1-7, 1-1 RMAC): The Cowgirls saw themselves on fire to start the game as they jumped out to an early 15-11 lead over the Grizzlies at the end of the first quarter. The Cowgirls would then hold the Grizzlies to 7 points in the second to take a 27-18 lead at half. The Grizzlies struggled offensively as they shot 27.6% (8-29) from the field and 6.3% (1-16) from the three during the first half.
 
The teams decided to swap roles at half as the second half belonged to the Grizzlies. The Cowgirls shot 25% (7-28) from the field in the second half which included 7.1% (1-14) from three. The Grizzlies would go on to outscore the Cowgirls 39-18 in the second half to beat the Cowgirls 57-45.
 
The Cowgirls finished by shooting 31.9% (15-47) from the field and 18.5% from the three and also grabbed 30 total rebounds on the night. Jordyn Lewis continues to lead the Cowgirls offensively as she recorded 19 points while connecting on three 3's and 4 rebounds. Ashley Antone (9 points, 6 rebounds) and Maiah Rivas (7 points, 4 steals) also aided the Cowgirls against the Grizzlies.
