LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team was within two of South Dakota Mines with 8:29 left in the third quarter, but a 12-0 run by the Hardrockers was too much for the Cowgirls to overcome as they lost 60-46 Friday at Wilson Complex.

NMHU (4-19, 2-14) cut the lead to six points early in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get any closer as South Dakota Mines (8-12, 5-11) went on to outscore the Cowgirls 15-9 in the final period.

Jordyn Lewis led NMHU with 14 points while
Amari Terry had eight and
Allyah George and
Brianna Stewart each adding seven with George adding a team-high nine rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 36.6 percent from the field, including going 6-for-16 from 3-point range. Both teams struggled with turnovers as NMHU committed 22 turnovers while the Hardrockers committed 18.

Sami Steffeck led South Dakota Mines with 18 points and five assists and four steals. The Hardrockers shot 42.3 percent from the field, including shooting 8-for-22 from 3-point range.

The Cowgirls return to action 5 p.m. Saturday as they host Black Hills State.
