LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team dropped the series finale to MSU Denver 10-6 on Monday afternoon at Brandt Field.
Â
The Cowboys (7-13 overall, 0-8 RMAC) tied the game at 3-3 after a three-run third inning that included a
Justin DeHoog RBI single and a two-run single from
Gaylan Young.
Â
But a trio of home runs by the Roadrunners (12-7, 6-2) over the next three innings helped them build an 8-3 lead.
Â
NMHU got a pair of runs back in its half of the sixth when
Auggie Francis blasted a home run over the batter's eye in center field and that was followed by a
Jared Brown home run to right to make it 8-6. MSU Denver, however, scored a run each in the eighth and ninth inning to make the final 10-6.
Â
Brown and Francis led the Cowboys at the plate – collecting seven of the team's 10 hits. Brown went 4-for-5 with a home run, double, RBI and two runs while Francis went 3-for-4 with a home run, RBI and two runs.
Tyler Winkler got the loss, going 3.2 innings and giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Â
NMHU will be at home again this upcoming weekend as the Cowboys host a four-game series with Dixie State starting 3 p.m. Friday at Brandt Field.
