COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team had a tough time figuring out UC Colorado Springs starter Jonathan Cowles and allowed nine runs in the first four innings as the Cowboys fell 10-1 in the series opener Friday at Mountain Lion Park.

NMHU (9-17 overall, 2-11 RMAC) fell behind 3-0 after one inning, 7-0 after three innings and 9-0 after four innings as the Cowboys didn't get on the board until the sixth inning while
Joe Cilladi hit an RBI single to left to score
Auggie Francis to make it 9-1.

The Mountain Lions (15-12, 7-6) tacked on another run in the seventh to make the final 10-1.

The Cowboys finished the game with four hits with Cilladi, Francis,
Eloy Reyna and
Garrett Hammer collecting a single apiece.

Jacob Padilla picked up the loss, going six innings and giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Sergio Lucero was strong in relief for NMHU, going two innings and giving up just one hit.

The teams continue the series with a doubleheader starting noon Saturday back at Mountain Lion Park.
