LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- An eight-run seventh inning by CSU-Pueblo cost the New Mexico Highlands baseball team as the Cowboys fell 12-4 on Friday at Brandt Field.
Â
NMHU (15-28 overall, 8-21 RMAC) led 4-2 with two outs in the top of the seventh when five consecutive hits and a pair of walks by the ThunderWolves (21-21, 16-13) led to eight runs and turned the Cowboy two-run lead into a six-run deficit.
Â
CSU-Pueblo added two more in the ninth to make the final 12-4.
Â
The Cowboys fell behind 1-0 in the third inning before a four-run bottom half of the inning thanks to an RBI single by
Joe Cilladi, a
Gaylan Young RBI single and a
Carlos Ramirez two-run single made it 4-1. But the Cowboys were held scoreless the rest of the way as the ThunderWolves scored 11 unanswered runs.
Â
Cilladi, Young and Ramirez each picked up two hits as NMHU finished with 10 hits – all singles, however.
Kyle Bedsole had a strong start for NMHU and finished going 6.2 innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Â
NMHU and CSU-Pueblo play a doubleheader starting noon Saturday at Brandt Field.
