LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Sunday to Fort Lewis, 7-4 and 16-0, at Cowgirl Field.

In the first game, the Cowgirls (7-20 overall, 6-15 RMAC) took a quick 2-0 lead on the Skyhawks (13-28, 8-20) after
Breanna Cabrera blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall. The lead grew to 3-0 when
Desiree Madrid hit an infield single to score
Brooklynn DeLozier in the third inning.

Fort Lewis scored once in the fourth before a five-run fifth – capped by a two-run homer – to make it 6-3 Skyhawks. NMHU cut it to two runs when
Nicole Correia hit an RBI single before Fort Lewis picked up an insurance run in the seventh to make the final 7-4.

DeLozier picked up a pair of hits for the Cowgirls, going 2-for-2 with a run.
Belinda Gonzalez got the loss, going seven innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits with one strikeout and now walks.

In the second game, NMHU didn't collect a hit and lost 16-0 – allowing six unearned runs on four errors.

NMHU plays its final home series of the season next week as the Cowgirls take on Adams State starting noon Saturday with a doubleheader before senior day on Sunday with an 11 a.m. start (will also be a doubleheader).
