Cowboys fall to No. 24 Lubbock Christian

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team dropped a mid-week contest to No. 24 Lubbock 16-6 on Tuesday afternoon at Brandt Field.
 
The Cowboys (12-22) fell behind 7-0 after two innings before NMHU got two back on a Justin DeHoog solo home run and a Garrett Hammer RBI single to make it 7-2 in the bottom of the second.
 
But the Chaps (26-9) score two more in the third to push it to 9-2. The Cowboys got a solo homer from Gaylan Young in the fourth but a four-run fifth and a three-run sixth made it 16-3 before NMHU scored three in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 16-6.
 
The Cowboys got six hits from six different players while Young drove in two for NMHU. Jacob Padilla got the loss, going two innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
 
NMHU returns to RMAC play Friday as the Cowboys travel to take on Colorado Christian.
