Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands Volleyball (1-9, 0-2 RMAC) team lost 2 conference games over the weekend as they faced reigning RMAC champion Colorado Mesa, and Western State Colorado.
Against Mesa, the Cowgirls never found a rhythm as they fell in three straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-11). Mesa started the match off hot as they had a kill percentage of 51% in the first set, and didn't look back.
Keegan Lopez led the Cowgirls in kills with 10 and also finished with 1 block and 3 digs.
Bayley Willis stepped in for the Cowgirls and finished with 6 kills.
Taley Ferrari had 4 kills and led the Cowgirls in blocks with 3.
Meranda Romero led the team with 12 digs.
Western Colorado also started the match off hot and took an early 2-0 lead (25-11, 25-20). During the 3
rd set, the Cowgirls were able to find some momentum as the set ended at 28-26 in favor of Western.
Sierra Foley was finally able to find her hitting power as she led the Cowgirls in kills with 11 and also had 7 digs.
Anissa Hernandez and
Camryn Nelson were also able to find a little rhythm tonight as they both had 7 kills.
Stacy Johnson and Hernandez both led the Cowgirls in blocks with 3.
The Cowgirls will hit the road next weekend as they will travel to South Dakota to take on South Dakota School of Mines on September 27 at 7 pm and Black Hills State on September 28 at 5:30 pm.
