Cowboys drop final game to Colorado School of Mines

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team lost the final game of a four-game series to Colorado School of Mines on Sunday afternoon at Brandt Field.
 
The Cowboys struggled to bring runners across the plate as the Orediggers forced the Cowboys to leave 11 runners on base. The Orediggers bats never slowed down as they jumped out to an early 12-0 lead before the Cowboys were finally able to score.
 
Griffin Logan was able to step in as a pinch hitter and score Eric Papas from second with a through the right side after Papas reached on an error from Mines shortstop.
 
Tywon Mackey Jr. also stepped up for the Cowboys as a pinch hitter and brought in the second run for the Cowboys with a single through the left side.
 
Colorado Mines would add one more run in the 8th inning and go on to win 13-2 over NMHU.
 
Mackey Jr. was a perfect 2 for 2 on the day with an RBI while Estevan De La O, Aiden McNichol, Thomas Wiskeski, Eric Papas and Griffin Logan would each record a hit for the Cowboys. The Orediggers wold go on to win 13-2 over the Cowgirls
 
Robbie Alarcon, the Las Vegas native, would get the start for the Cowboys as he faced 24 batters and gave up 8 hits abd 6 runs while striking out 2. Cameron Polich stepped in to relieve him while giving up 2 hits and 4 runs. Brandon Baier and John Slape would also step on the mound as Baier gave up 7 hits and 3 runs while Slape gave up 2 runs while striking out 4 Orediggers.
 
The Cowboys will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Denver, CO to take on MSU-Denver.
