LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands took Colorado Mesa - a team atop the RMAC and receiving votes in the national poll - to overtime, but fell to the Mavericks 1-0 Friday afternoon at Old Memorial Middle School.
The Cowgirls (1-11 overall, 1-9 RMAC) withstood CMU (12-2, 9-1) and 13 shots - including nine on goal thanks the the strong play of keeper
Katie Scott - to take the game to overtime. However, the Mavs' Michaela Dangler scored in the 97th minute to win the game - CMU's eighth win in a row.
The Cowgirls finished with six shots - five on goal - in the contest (none in overtime) while the Mavs finished with 15 shots (11 on goal).
Scott finished with 10 saves for the Cowgirls.
Valeria Baca and
Monique Nevarez finished with a team-high two shots with both of Baca's shots on goal.
NMHU returns to action noon Sunday when they host Westminster College.
