SILVER CITY, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team was again close, but fell short in the fourth quarter as the Cowgirls lost to Eastern New Mexico 56-51 Saturday at Drag's Court.
NMHU (0-2) bounced back from being outscored 18-7 in the first quarter by Eastern New Mexico (2-0) - outscoring the Greyhounds 20-8 in the second quarter to take a 27-26 lead into the half.
The Cowgirls led 40-38 going into the fourth quarter before being outscored 18-11 in the fourth by ENMU to fall by five points.
Aja Scott led NMHU with 15 points and eight rebounds,
Maiah Rivas had 12 points and three rebounds while
Jordyn Lewis had nine points.
The Cowgirls play their home opener 5 p.m. Monday against University of the Southwest.
